The Department of Public Health of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Tartu, Estonia

The mission of the Department of Public Health (DPH) is to improve health and prevent disease in Estonian populations by acquiring, disseminating and applying public health knowledge.

We are aiming at providing knowledge, skills and experience for practicing public health, expert decision-making, implementation of decisions, management, health promotion and research in the fields of health care and public health.

The Department provides graduate and post-graduate training (master and doctoral programs) in public health and has a wide portfolio of research projects in the domain of public health. There are five Chairs established in DPH: Environmental and Occupational Health, Health Promotion, Health Care Management and Health Economics,  Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Also the excellent lectors and experts of Medical Ethics and History of Medicine are working in our institute. The Department has developed highly-qualified staff, enabling a number of people to complete their Doctoral (3) and Master's degrees in Public Health abroad (7).
The curriculum of the Master of Sciences of Public Health (MScPH) and Master of Public Health (MPH) was developed in close cooperation with academics and professionals in course of World Bank Project during 1998-2000. During the last decade 5 tracks of MPH curriculas were developed:
Health Protection, Health Promotion, Health Care Management, Epidemiology. Environmental and Occupational Health still in a waiting phasis. By the year 2010 about a hundred  students have passed and graduated on the MPH programs.
